Incorporating Bob Crane's Roller Boogie
Jacques Dutronc!!!! “Les Cactus”
What is this song about? I’m dying to know.
GOD I LOVE THIS SONG
Jacques Dutronc is cooler than you
“Le Responsable” by Jacques Dutronc. Been jonesin’ to hear this all day. Plus I talked Ranie Mae’s ear off about Frank Zappa and she was probably like, “Tate takes good photos but sure does talk about stuff only he cares about.” LOL
New fave Jacques Dutronc song, “J’ai Tout Lu, Tout Vu, Tout Bu”.
Pretty sure I’ve heard this sampled somewhere but can’t place it.
Been listening to Jacques Dutronc a lot lately. This is solid stuff from 1966. Love it. Maybe tomorrow I’ll go with some Os Mutantes…
Day 09: A song that you can dance to
Jacques Dutronc: Les Gens Sont Fous, Les Temps Sont Flous (Disques Vogue), 1966.
This is a song you can dance to if you live in the Sixties or spend enough time watching films of people in the Sixties dancing and wishing you were there. :\
Jacques Dutronc in 1966 performing “Les Cactus” which I think translates to “Everyone Booze Up and Riot” but my French is horrible.
This song was in the movie “Youth In Revolt” and it ROCKS.
Today’s audio is a fucking killer slice of French pop music from Jacques Durronc. “Le Responsable” comes from his 1969 self-titled album (a lot of his albums are self-titled, he was incredibly humble) and it’s my fave cut on the album. Dutronc mixed French pop with a more British garage sound and it’s easy to see why he was often compared to Ray Davies of the Kinks. His music was actually very satirical and made fun of youth culture. Though not as cool or sleazy as Serge Gainsbourg I highly recommend checking out Jacques Dutronc. He later became a big film star in France.

Weird trivia:
Dutronc’s “La fille du père Noël” and David Bowie’s “Jean Genie” share a riff likely derived from the Yardbirds’ accelerated version of Bo Diddley’s “I’m a Man.” The Belgian singer Arno recorded a medley of the Dutronc and Bowie songs (“Jean Baltazaarr”) with the American singer Beverly Jo Scott that makes clear their similarities.
